Der StartSSL Notary Test – häufige Fragen & Antworten, damit der Test auch bestanden wird!

Wer beim StartSSL Web-of-Trust (WoT) mitmachen will, der muss einen sogenannten „Notary Test“ bestehen. Während die Regeln für angehende „Notare“ grundsätzlich klar sind, besteht oft durch die Sprachbarriere ein gewisses Hindernis den Test zu bestehen, obwohl die notwendige Fachkenntnis eigentlich vorhanden wäre. Deswegen bringen wir hier für die Vorbereitung zum Test häufige Fragen und dazugehörige Antworten – damit auch ordentlich gepaukt werden kann! 🙂

Question: Can I verify my best friend via a phone conversation?
Answer: No, verifications must be performed in person – face to face

Question: One of the provided documents is not valid anymore (expired). Can I still verify this member?
Answer: No, I can’t accept expired documents for validation of the identity

Question: Somebody sent me all the required documents by fax, because he lives over 500 miles from the next WoT notary. Because of the circumstances I’m allowed to verify this member successfully…
Answer: No, validation must be performed in person

Question: The details (name,address) of the member at the StartSSL™ site differ from the documents I’m reviewing. What shall I do?
Answer: The member has to update the information at the StartSSL web site prior to the successful verification

Question: I have to make a copy of the driving license of the verified member and keep it for three years – correct?
Answer: No, I shall not make nor keep any copies of the documents presented by a member

Question: Can I verify other members of the StartSSL™ WoT without taking this test?
Answer: No, because I receive notary status only after absolving the test

Question: Do I have to renew my Class 2 certificate in order to retain notary status after the first year?
Answer: Yes, but only if no other notary can confirm my identity

Question: What is the minimum age for becoming a StartSSL™ WoT notary?
Answer: After reaching the 18th birthday

Question: Can my close relatives also participate when I’m a notary?
Answer: Yes

Question: Do I represent StartCom in my country when functioning as a notary?
Answer: No

Question: Can I verify my best friend via a phone conversation?
Answer: No, verifications must be performed in person – face to face
